Common questions

How do I play?

On your turn, add one or more of your letters anywhere on the board. You can move any tile already on the board and rebuild old words, as long as every tile ends up back on the board in one connected crossword of real words. Only the letters you added score. Tap How to play in the app for the full rules.

How do I play with a friend?

Tap New game and send your friend the invite link or code. They tap Join with a code and enter it. You don’t have to play at the same time: take your turn whenever it suits you.

What if I don’t take my turn?

If a turn isn’t taken in time, it passes automatically so the game can carry on.

How do I keep my games if I change phones?

Go to More → Account → Save your games and confirm your email with the code we send you. On your new phone, choose Recover your games (or More → Recover existing games) and enter a new code. If you play as a guest without an email, your games can’t be restored after you delete the app or change phones.

I didn’t get the code

Codes come from no-reply@mail.crossprout.com and expire after 10 minutes. Check your spam or junk folder, make sure the email address is spelled correctly, then ask for a new code. Still nothing? Email us.

How do I change my display name?

On your games screen, tap Playing as … · Edit. Your opponents see your display name, never your email.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, open More → Delete my account. It takes effect straight away and can’t be undone: your active games are forfeited to your opponents, and your name, email and sign-in are removed. Your opponents keep their game history, with you shown as “Deleted player”. If you can’t open the app, email us from the address you saved and we’ll delete the account for you. See the privacy policy for details.

Someone chose an offensive name

Email us with the name and roughly when you played them, and we’ll look into it.
